Reviving the Glory of Silver: Celuk Hosts “Jewelry Festival 2024”

Opening ceremony of CJF IV 2024

Celuk Village is organizing the Celuk Jewelry Festival 2024 to restore its former glory. This two-day festival, officially opened by the Head of Tourism of Gianyar Regency, aims to rekindle the vibrant silver industry that once put Celuk on the global map.

Celuk Village, located in Sukawati District, Gianyar Regency, is renowned for its silver craftsmanship. From the 1980s to the late 1990s, Celuk was a hub of silver artisans, famous across Bali, Indonesia, and internationally. However, in recent years, the silver industry in Celuk has significantly declined, with its once-thriving trade almost disappearing.

Celuk Village is organizing the Celuk Jewelry Festival 2024 to restore its former glory. This two-day festival, officially opened by the Head of Tourism of Gianyar Regency, aims to rekindle the vibrant silver industry that once put Celuk on the global map.

Celuk Village Head, I Nyoman Rupadana, marks the fourth time. The festival has been held since its inception in 2020. The event’s primary goal is to revive interest in silver craftsmanship, which reached its peak in the 1980s but has since faded. Many young artisans who once dedicated their lives to silver crafting have shifted to other industries, leading to a decline in the village’s signature trade.

The festival brings together various stakeholders, including local artisans and industry leaders, to address this. The event features multiple activities, such as exhibitions of historic silver crafts dating back to the 1930s, rare silverwork displays, and even a showcase of the most expensive “Janggan” kite adorned with silver and gold. Other highlights include silver crafting competitions and workshops tailored for the younger generation, led by established silver entrepreneurs from Celuk.

In addition to hands-on activities, the festival also hosts seminars on silver craftsmanship. International participants have joined the festival to learn the art of silver making. Further, we are showcasing Celuk’s enduring appeal as a center of excellence in the industry.

Celuk hopes to reignite enthusiasm for its traditional silver craftsmanship through this festival. And ensure its legacy continues to shine for generations to come.
