Jewelry Exports From Bali

Denpasar (Antaranews Bali)—Exports of various types of jewelry (gems) produced by the skilled hands of craftsmen, generally from Celuk Village, Gianyar Regency, Bali, reached 7.31 million US dollars during November 2017, an increase of 1.26 million US dollars (20.98 percent) compared to the previous month, when they were recorded at 6.04 million US dollars.

“The foreign exchange earnings compared to the same month the previous year also increased by 360,293 US dollars or 5.18 percent, because in November 2016, the shipment of various types of jewelry only generated 6.95 million US dollars,” said the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Bali Province Adi Nugroho, in Denpasar, Sunday.

Adi said that the shipment of various types of jewelry contributed 15.94 percent of Bali’s total export value of 45.90 million US dollars during November 2017, or a decrease of 1.79 million US dollars (3.76 percent) compared to the previous month, when it was recorded at 47.69 million US dollars.

However, Bali’s total exports increased by 1.69 million US dollars or 3.76 percent compared to the previous month because November 2016 only produced 44.20 million US dollars.

Adi explained that the export of various types of jewelry included rings, necklaces, and various types of souvenirs resembling flowers made from gold raw materials for head jewelry and ear studs for women.

The various types of jewelry are mainly exported to Germany at 3.78 percent, followed by the United States at 3.36 percent, Australia at 2.25 percent, Thailand at 0.01 percent, China at 0.25 percent, Japan at 0.85 percent, Singapore at 0.05 percent, and Taiwan at 0.03 percent.

The remaining 89.42 percent is exported to various countries in the world because various types of jewelry, especially those made from silver, are in great demand by foreign consumers at quite affordable prices.

The export value of the jewelry does not include those purchased directly by foreign and domestic tourists when visiting the center of various types of jewelry crafts in Celuk Village, Gianyar Regency, 15 km east of Denpasar, which is on the same route to tourist attractions in East Bali.

Most of the people of Celuk Village, Gianyar Regency, are engaged in jewelry craft businesses using silver and gold raw materials. This household industry requires special experience and skills, which are generally inherited by the local community from generation to generation.
